2. Is ACE security film effective on all types of windows? Including tempered glass?
Yes, if installed properly, ACE security film is effective at preventing your windows from being breached by weather and intruders. If installing on tempered glass, you must use an anchoring system to keep the glass in the window frame.

Click here to view a guide on using a Structural Sealant (DOW 995) to anchor tempered glass.

3. Will ACE security film make my windows hurricane proof? Earth-quake proof? Burglar-proof?
No, security film is hurricane-proof, earthquake-proof, nor burglar-proof. Security film is designed to make the window glass more shatter-resistant.

In the event of a wind storm, these films may have significant safety and security value. They can reduce the risk of injury from flying shards of broken glass, and possibly help prevent debris and water penetration through the window depending on the severity of the storm (and the type of glass, framing system, size and velocity of objects, and more).

In an earthquake, these films can reduce the risk of serious injury from flying shards of broken glass, and possible prevent glass from falling out of a home or building. Again, much may depend upon the severity of the quake (and the type of glass, framing system, and more, too).

4. How can ACE security film help protect me in natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes?
During natural disasters, flying glass is often the greatest contributor to human injury and/or fatalities. Although, nothing can completely stop the destructive force of extremely violent natural disasters, security film can reduce the risk of injuries by helping to keep the glass inside its frame and the building envelope intact. Click here to see the destructive effects of loosing your windows during a hurricane.
5. What is "smash and grab" and how does window security film prevent it?
"Smash and grab" is the term used to describe the process of a thief breaking or "smashing" through a window or glass door in an home, office, or retail store, and stealing or "grabbing" valuables electronics, cash, jewelry, confidential business information, and other valuables.

Security film forms a super strong bond with the glass which holds the glass together even after a many forceful impacts. Even if the glass is broken, it remains adhered to the film and will stay in place. This will deter a thief expecting easy entry to your property.

NOTE: An anchoring system will be necessary when installing on tempered glass to deter potential intruders. Call us for more information on available anchoring systems.

6. What is the difference between regular window tint and ACE security film?
ACE's security film is much thicker than window tint. In addition, security film also uses a pressure sensitive adhesive that forms a physical bond with glass. The combination of increased thickness and aggressive adhesive greatly increases the film's ability to absorb the energy of an impact and keep the glass intact.
7. Is security film impenetrable?
As with any security system, window security film is not impenetrable. Security film will reduce the risk of penetration of the glass by flying debris due to severe weather or other violent situations.

ACE's Security film, when properly installed and having had sufficient time to cure can be very effective in hindering, if not preventing a thief or windborne debris from entering your property. Click here to watch the ACE window security film online video.

8. Where should I use window security film?
Security film can be used on any glass that is vulnerable to windborne debris or smash and grab thieves. This includes your home, office, or storefront windows, display cases, and automobiles.
9. How thick is the window security film?
We sell ACE SL9 clear, 2-ply, 9ml security film.
10. Will the security film stop my valuables from fading?
Security film can not completely eliminate fading. However, ACE film blocks 99% of ultra violet light which can significantly reduce the rate of fading of furniture, carpets and floors.
11. Is security film noticeable once installed?
Window security film is virtually invisible once installed on your new or existing windows; however, it is common to see a few small bubbles and some hazing during the curing period (30-90 days). The security film is 75% effective immediately after installation and 100% effective after the curing process.
12. What are the terms of the warranty?
Please read our Terms and Disclaimer information page for full details on the Window Security Film Warranty.
1. Can I really install window security film myself?
Yes, you can. We provide detailed measuring instructions for determining the amount of window security film you should order, a fast and easy ordering process via this website, and detailed installation instructions for installing security film on your windows.
2. Does the film get installed on the inside or the outside of the glass?
Security film is installed on the inside surface of your existing windows. On interior windows, the security film is installed opposite the strike or impact side so that it can absorb the force of the blow.
3. Can I install the security film over window tint?
No. All window tint, decals, signs, and stickers must be removed prior to installation. The security film must be applied directly to the bare glass surface.
4. Can I install the security film on cracked glass?
No. Security film must not be installed on glass that is damaged (cracked, scratched), etched, textured or frosted. If the window already has solar film applied, it must be removed before installation of ACE window security film.
5. How do I measure the correct amount of window security film?
Measuring is easy - you can do it. All you need to do is complete our Measuring Worksheet and you will instantly know how much window security film to purchase.
6. What tools do I need to install the window security film?
We provide nearly all of the professional grade tools necessary for you to correctly install the security film yourself. The only thing you will need is distilled water, a measuring tape, a cutting surface and a straight edge. See the Installation Instructions for more information.
7. What is the best time of day to install the security film?
Avoid installing the security film on windows that are in direct sunlight or hot due to reflected sunlight. We recommend installation during daylight hours for best visibility. However avoid installation on windows that are in direct sunlight, as this can lead to water spots that are visible after final installation. Delay your installation until a time of day when the windows are not in direct sunlight.
8. How do I prepare the windows and room for installation?
Generally, you will need approximately 3 feet of space in front of the window to install the window film. In addition, all window treatments should be removed prior to installation. Since you will be spraying the window with slip solution (mixture of distilled water and slip agent) it is recommended to use a drop cloth under the window to protect the furniture and floors.

The window should be thoroughly cleaned according to the installation instructions, and any tint, decals, stickers, etc. removed if necessary.

9. How long will the security film take to cure?
Depending on the window's exposure to sunlight and the amount of moisture left behind after installation, the film can take between 30 - 90 days to fully cure. During this curing process, excess moisture (which can resemble small pockets of water or haziness) will disappear and the film should appear clear.
